Writer Biography

You probably already know the power of adding fresh content to your website, blog, or other online marketing system; content that says something of value to draw in customers. The Internet is like a large marketing playground, and to play there, you need quality content.

I specialize in articles on human resources, small business, marketing, real estate, home improvement, health and wellness, life coaching topics, holiday themes, and more.

I try to focus articles on a “why” and "what" — Why would your reader want to read it? — What will your reader take away? — What action might your reader take next? — How will this article entice him or her to take action ?

I have been writing since high school and writing virtually for pay since selling my first article in 2008. During my work as an executive secretary, I gained lots of experiences as I edited manuscripts and other important documents for top executives.

For four years, I also worked virtually as an audio transcriptionist transcribing conference calls for Fortune 500 companies.

I have sold over 500 articles/journal publications/white papers/website blurbs to clients.

I love working from my multi-windowed home office in the country where I can stay indoors from the cold and enjoy watching the wild birds that visit my feeder in the winter, and keep an eye on the plants and flowers in the summer.

All that aside, the Internet is my school. I do constant research so I am better able to help my customers.

My dog and cats keep me company as I work. I love to drink coffee, eat healthy snacks, participate in local meetups, walk my dog, workout at the gym, go for massages, and interact with other work-from-home freelancers and small business owners locally and via Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter.

Let me mention Joy R. Calderwood is a pen name I use so my online articles won't become confused with my real name.

SUPPORT FOR BEGINNING WRITERS

I love to share my gifts and talents, but need to charge a fee for consultations just as anyone does. For that reason, I have added this section.

Are you interested in becoming a freelance writer?

We all start somewhere. Even after having sold over 500 pieces, I still look back at old articles and see room for improvement. Becoming a great writer is a process.  Sometimes it's a painful process when an editor sends back a rejected article. Critiques often hurt. But, there is always a lesson to learn. Becoming a writer requires you write. Becoming a paid writer means developing a backbone and being willing to be resilient.

I will critique your non-fiction writing or consult with you about a new project .  You may send me your draft for an emailed review with comments. ( $0.03/word based on 500-1,200 words).

If you want to discuss your project in person, I'll accept $20 paid in advance for an hour of in-person consultation-Cambridge or Kitchener.

Also check my blog for aspiring writers for helpful tips.

Need Some Memes?

I will create memes using my original artwork as a backdrop for use on your social media platforms. See my Art page for examples.
